The slow cooker is an increasingly popular kitchen appliance. Slow cooking is a gentler method of cooking which helps retain flavour and nutrients. Also, delicate foods such as fish, fruit and veg won't break up as much during cooking. A slow cooker will turn the cheapest cut of meat into a tender treat.

Originally we were going to shoot up 75 from Saint Ignace to Sault Ste. Marie to watch boats go through the famous Soo Locks, but I changed plans on the fly after about five miles of dead straight (read: BORING!) riding. We took the exit for State Road 134 and headed out to Detour Village. The views of Lake Huron were wonderful and there are lots of places to pull over and walk the beach or just soak in the view.

5) Stock Your Pantry--It's hard to make quick and healthy meals if you don't have anything on hand to create them with. Stock up on items such as chicken broth, tomato sauce, canned tomatoes and beans, as well as a selection of commonly used spices such as chili, garlic and onion powder and Italian seasoning. Keep your freezer stocked with frozen chicken breasts, pork loin in the crock pot, lean hamburger and fish.



Frozen foods can be placed into the slow cooker as is. You don't need to thaw first, but a good idea is to add some warm liquid to act as a buffer so you don't need to add more cooking time.

When you know you will have a busy schedule, prepare your meals in advance the previous night. When you prepare food ahead of time, such as arranging a lasagna or chopping up stir fry ingredients, you create easy meals that can easily be assembled.

If you want a meal that'll be ready within a short period of time, smoker cooking just isn't right for you. It's really a process that calls for more time than it would when using the barbecue grill. This is because the food is never put straight on top of the heat source. Obviously, the length of time will change with the sort of meat and the temperature within the smoker. The low and slow cooking of the smoker is wonderful for the tougher cuts of meat which are almost un-chewable if cooked quickly.

Granted, some of the things we eat that we refer to as "food" are pretty dead and denatured to begin with. Don't even think that this gives you the green light slow roast pork loin recipe to nuke that fake food thinking it won't make a difference! Radiated fake food is even worse.

Arrange the roast on a platter and put the fruit pieces around it. Mix quarter of a cup of meat drippings from the roasting tin slow cooker sainsburys the cornstarch and cook the mixture in a pan over a moderate heat until it is thick, stirring it all the time, to make a gravy. This will take about five minutes. Slice the meat and serve it with the fruit and gravy.
